Tokyo, Oct. 15 -- UMIN Clinical Trials Registry (UMIN-CTR) received information related to the study (UMIN000062606) titled 'Study of How Moxibustion on the Arms and Legs Affects Body Temperature and Autonomic Function' on Oct. 15.
Study Type:
Interventional
Study Design:
Basic Design - Cross-over
Randomization - Randomized
Blinding - Open -no one is blinded
Control - Placebo
Primary Sponsor:
Institute - Morinomiya University of Medical Sciences
Condition:
Condition - Healthy Volunteers
Classification by malignancy - Others
Genomic information - NO
Objective:
Narrative objectives1 - he objective of this study is to clarify the effects of moxibustion stimulation at acupoints located over arteries on the dorsum of the hands and feet on skin temperature, core temperature, and autonomic nervous system activity. In particular, the study aims to investigate the potential of these acupoints as effective stimulation sites and conditions for inducing a reduction in core temperature of at least 0.2 C.
Basic objectives2 - Efficacy
Intervention:
Interventions/Control_1 - Moxibustion condition: Two moxa units (SenNenKyu Miracle Soft Smokeless Type) are applied to each of the following bilateral acupoints: LI4, LI5, SI5, LR3, ST42, and ST41. Participants ignite the moxa themselves and remove it when the warming sensation disappears. If excessive heat is perceived, the moxa is removed immediately. The intervention is performed once.
Interventions/Control_2 - Control condition: Moxa units are applied to the bilateral LI4, LI5, SI5, LR3, ST42, and ST41 acupoints without ignition. The moxa units are attached for 9 minutes, replaced, and attached for an additional 9 minutes. The attachment duration is based on the average burning time of the moxa obtained in a preliminary experiment. The intervention is performed once.
