Tokyo, Oct. 1 -- UMIN Clinical Trials Registry (UMIN-CTR) received information related to the study (UMIN000062977) titled 'Effects of Short-Term Upper Limb Immobilization on Motor Imagery and Upper Limb Activity' on Oct. 1.
Study Type:
Interventional
Study Design:
Basic Design - Single arm
Randomization - Non-randomized
Blinding - Open -no one is blinded
Control - Uncontrolled
Primary Sponsor:
Institute - Nagoya City University
Condition:
Condition - Secondary fracture after distal radius fracture
Classification by malignancy - Others
Genomic information - NO
Objective:
Narrative objectives1 - Distal radius fracture, a common initial fragility fracture, is associated with a high risk of subsequent fractures, including hip fractures. Based on our previous findings, changes in bilateral symmetry of upper-limb activity and dynamic balance function have been identified as potential factors contributing to secondary fracture risk. Previous studies have also reported that short-term immobilization may reduce muscle contraction efficiency and motor imagery ability. However, the causal relationships among these factors remain unclear. This study aims to investigate the effects of short-term upper-limb immobilization on these factors and thereby elucidate part of the mechanism underlying secondary fractures. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the development of novel intervention strategies.
Basic objectives2 - Others
Intervention:
Interventions/Control_1 - 24-hour immobilization of the non-dominant upper limb
Eligibility:
