Tokyo, Oct. 14 -- UMIN Clinical Trials Registry (UMIN-CTR) received information related to the study (UMIN000063266) titled 'Unravelling the neurophysiological mechanisms of pain relief induced by lumbar extension exercises for knee pain' on Oct. 13.
Study Type:
Interventional
Study Design:
Basic Design - Single arm
Randomization - Non-randomized
Blinding - Open -no one is blinded
Control - Uncontrolled
Primary Sponsor:
Institute - Secomedic hospital
Condition:
Condition - Knee osteoarthritis
Classification by malignancy - Others
Genomic information - NO
Objective:
Narrative objectives1 - To reveal the neurophysiological mechanisms of pain relief in individuals with knee pain whose symptoms improve with lumbar spine movement.
Basic objectives2 - Others
Intervention:
Interventions/Control_1 - Participants will perform active lumbar extension from the prone position and push-ups on their knees, or receive manual therapy to the lumbar spine. These interventions will be administered in a randomized order. Before and after the interventions, we will measure the pressure pain thresholds, temporal summation of pain, and conditioned pain modulation in the areas around the knees and the forearms.
Eligibility:
Age-lower limit - 18
years-old
=
Gender - Male and Female
Key inclusion criteria - Individuals 18 years of age or older, individuals diagnosed with osteoarthritis of the knee and individuals who are capable of performing active lumbar extension exercises in a prone position and push-ups on their knees.
Key exclusion criteria - Individuals who are pregnant or may be pregnant; individuals diagnosed with dementia or a mental illness; individuals diagnosed with a central nervous system disorder or an intractable neurological disease that may affect their ability to exercise; individuals experiencing pain in the shoulders, hips, lower back, or other areas that may prevent them from performing the planned exercises or meeting the required frequency; and individuals who have been advised by a doctor not to exercise
Target Size - 40
