Stage: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a 2-valve internal combustion engine in which there is provided an ignition plug positioned on a lateral side in an air suction flow direction between an air suction valve port center and an air discharge valve port center, and which provides a stable lean combustion by suppressing disturbance in a tumble flow.SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine is provided, comprising: a single intake valve 46 and a single exhaust valve 50 that open and close a combustion chamber 20 composed of a cylinder head 14 and a top surface 15a of a piston 15; an intake valve port and an exhaust valve port 30; an intake port 32; a tumble aisle 64; and an ignition plug 21 arranged on a lateral side of the combustion chamber 20. A tumble flow enters orthogonally to a virtual line L between a center point C1 of the intake valve port 28 and a center point C2 of the exhaust valve port 30. A recess 102 is provided which is arranged on a combustion chamber ceiling surface 100 on a side of the cylinder head 14 and on an upstream side of the ignition plug 21 with respect to a flow-in direction of the tumble flow.
