Courtesy Call on His Majesty King Abdullah II, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

On August 21, 2025, commencing at 12:20 local time for approximately 15 minutes, Minister Nakatani paid a courtesy call on His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The overview is as follows:

At the outset, Minister Nakatani expressed his respect for Jordan's significant role in promoting peace and stability in the Middle East. He also conveyed gratitude for the assistance provided by Jordan in terms of JSDF's operation in transporting Japanese nationals overseas and others in the region, given the situation in the Middle East. His Majesty King Abdullah II welcomed the development of bilateral defense cooperation and the continued close coordination between defense authorities, including the defense ministerial meeting held earlier that day between Minister Nakatani and Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Jordan Dr. Hassan. He stated that Jordan and the Jordanian Armed Forces are fully committed to cooperating with the Self-Defense Forces. 2Japan-Jordan Defense Ministerial Meeting

On August 21, 2025, commencing at 11:10 local time for approximately 30 minutes, Defense Minister Gen Nakatani held a meeting with the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Dr. Jafar Hassan. The overview is as follows:

At the outset, Defense Minister Nakatani thanked the assistance provided by Jordan in terms of JSDF's operation in transporting Japanese nationals overseas and others in the region, given the situation in the Middle East, and also paid his respect to the roles Jordan plays for the peace and stability of the Middle East region. Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Hassan, in response, stated that he welcomes the advancements made in terms of Japan-Jordan bilateral cooperation and hopes to see them develop further. Defense Minister Nakatani and Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Hassan welcomed the advancement of defense cooperation between the two countries, based on the Memorandum on Defense Cooperation and Exchanges signed in 2016. They particularly welcomed the vigorous exchanges among high-levels, such as the Defense Ministerial Meeting in February and the visit by Major General Al-Hnaity, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in November, both in 2024. Furthermore, Defense Minister Nakatani and Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Hassan have concurred to further promote Japan-Jordan defense cooperation and exchanges, including unit-to-unit exchanges. They also exchanged opinions on regional situation, and confirmed the importance of close communication between the defense authorities for the peace and stability of the region. Additionally, they affirmed to hold politico-military talks and discuss the direction of further cooperation between Japan and Jordan.
