TOKYO, May 16 -- Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan issued the following news release:
On May 15, Mr. HORII Iwao, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan received a courtesy call from Mr. Volker Turk, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
State Minister HORII welcomed High Commissioner Turk to Japan and expressed his respect for the work by the OHCHR to promote and protect human rights around the world. He also noted the importance of the immediate resolution of the abductions issue.
High Commissioner Turk expressed his gratitude for Japan's support to the OHCHR and expressed his intention to continue working with Japan to improve the human rights situation in the world.
The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to working together to further protect and promote human rights.
