TOKYO, April 15 -- Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan issued the following news release:

On March 18, Dr. KUNIMITSU Ayano, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call by Mr. Mohammed Najib ELJI, Charge d'Affaires ad interim, Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic in Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows:

At the outset, State Minister KUNIMITSU mentioned that Japan will support comprehensive, peaceful, and stable transition by the Syrian government and people, in cooperation with the international community. She also expressed that Japan will contribute to Syria's reconstruction by making use of the longstanding ties between the two countries as well as Japan's unique expertise and experience. Charge d'Affaires ad interim Elji, in reply, conveyed his appreciation for Japan's support and expressed his hope to strengthen bilateral coordination. He also explained that, in light of the recent exchange of attacks between the United States/Israel and Iran, Syria has been affected by soaring energy prices, and stated that the Syrian Government is seeking to overcome these challenges through strengthened cooperation with partners including Japan.
