TOKYO, July 28 -- Japan Patent Office issued the following news:
The Japan Patent Office (JPO) provided a face-to-face Examination Practice Training Program for the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) Thailand for a total of five days from July 15 to 21, 2026. The program was a follow-up to examination practice training for DIP new examiners delivered in 2023 and 2024. In parallel, we also provided Examination Practice Training Programs in the field of green technology and chemistry for a total of three days from July 15 to 17 and from July 17 to 21, 2026, respectively.
In these programs, four JPO lecturers including International Training Instructors of the JPO's Global Patent Academy (GPA) with extensive practical experience in patent examination offered courses. And 21, 41, and 47 DIP patent examiners participated as trainees in the follow-up program, green technology program, and chemistry program, respectively.
The trainees gained a deeper understanding of patent examination practices such as prior art search methods and assessment of novelty and inventive step through case studies using actual applications. One of them commented that the lecturer had a profound knowledge of patent examination and clearly explained the general idea of complicated examination procedures while presenting practical examples. Another remarked that the program was full of useful knowledge and information directly applicable to actual examination practices.
The JPO will continue to provide cooperation in patent examination practices to examiners in Thailand and other emerging countries where further business expansion of Japan's companies is expected, thereby supporting the development and strengthening of examination systems in those countries.
