TOKYO, July 10 -- Japan Patent Office issued the following news:

The Japan Patent Office (JPO) provided a five-day face-to-face Examination Practice Training Program for the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) patent examiners from June 29 to July 3, 2026. At IPOPHL's request, the program covered International Search and International Preliminary Examination practices, as well as patent examination practices in the field of healthcare informatics.

In this program, a total of 4 JPO examiners, including International Training Instructors of the JPO's Global Patent Academy (GPA) with extensive practical experience in patent examination, served as instructors. A total of 103 IPOPHL patent examiners participated in the program.

In the training on International Search and International Preliminary Examination practices, the JPO shared with IPOPHL its knowledge and experience concerning the practical aspects of International Searches and International Preliminary Examinations.

The training on patent examination practices in the field of healthcare informatics enabled participants to deepen their understanding of patent examination in this technical field through case studies and group discussions.

Feedback received from participants included comments such as "the instructors provided clear and informative explanations of International Search and International Preliminary Examination practices, which enhanced our understanding of these procedures," and that "the numerous case studies and opportunities for group discussion helped us deepen our knowledge of patent examination in the field of healthcare informatics."

The JPO will continue to provide cooperation in patent examination practices to examiners in the Philippines and other emerging countries where further business expansion of Japan's companies is expected, thereby supporting the development and strengthening of examination systems in those countries.
