TOKYO, Aug. 28 -- Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) issued the following news release:
On August 28, commencing at 14:45 for approximately 50 minutes, Minister NAKATANI held a Defense Ministerial Meeting with Secretary of State for Defence of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Rt Hon John Healey MP in Tokyo.
At the outset, Minister Nakatani expressed his resolve to further strengthen Japan's defense cooperation with the UK as each other's closest partners in Asia and Europe, based on the recognition that the security of the Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific is inseparable. In response, Secretary Healey associated himself with the Minister's remark.
Moreover, Minister Nakatani welcomed the port call of the UK Carrier Strike Group to Japan, as it not only demonstrates further advancement of Japan-UK defense cooperation but also demonstrates the UK's robust commitment to the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region.
Both Ministers welcomed the announcement of the first-ever Joint Statement on cooperation between both defense authorities. They confirmed that they would continue closely working together to elevate their cooperation to the next level in broad areas ranging from cooperation between all services including joint exercises,defense equipment and technology including GCAP, new domains such as space and cyber, as well as on Women, Peace and Security.
